RESEARCH IN ETHICS

The research projects arising from student work-studies in the Graduate Program in  Health Sciences of the Federal University of Uberlândia, should compulsorily, be approved by the Research Ethics Committee. This should be undertaken if they are to be involved with human and/or animal subjects, in a manner to assure the rights and responsibilities that attain to the participants of the research project, the scientific community and the country.

Therefore, in a manner that guarantees the transparency and ethical principles as well as integrity of all incumbent activities. Thus, all research protocols involving human subjects should be submitted to the CEP/CONEP System (Commission for Research Ethics/ National Commission of Research Ethics) by means Platform Brazil.

The Platform Brazil is an electronic system created by the Federal Government in order to systematize the receiving of research projects involving human subjects in Ethics committee across the country.

Animal studies

The ethics committee CEUA (Ethics Committee for the Use of Animals) has as its main intention to make the ethical review of any scientific or educational activity proposal that involves live animals, but not human. These pertain essentially to vertebrate groups, under the responsibility of the institution, following and promoting the national and international normative guidelines for research and teaching that utilizes such animals.

Before any activity involving an animal, the researcher should send their proposal to CEUA, with the knowledge of their hierarchical superior, and will only be able to initiate the research or educational activity involving animals after the evaluation of the committee, have presented their opinion.

The interpretation of use consists of manipulation, capture, collection, breeding experimenting (invasive or non-invasive), performing exams or surgical procedures, or any other type of intervention that may cause stress, pain, suffering, mutilation, and/or death.

The use of non-live animals should obey the legislation and internal regulations in force, in addition to being compatible, by analogy, with the ethical norms laid down by the CEUA.
